About Malone
A Kansas City native, soprano Malone Blaich seeks to give space for the profound spoken and unspoken stories of our world.
Her recent operatic credits include Die Zauberflöte (Pamina), Clivia (Clivia, scenes) and La Marchenera (Valentina, scenes) at the American Institute of Musical Studies 2024 (AIMS) in Graz, Austria. Shortly before leaving for Graz, Malone was engaged by the Cincinnati Song Initiative (CSI) to participate in their 2024 Let it be New Concert, debuting works by up-and-coming composers Evgeniya Kozhevnikova and Tommi Paavilainen. Additionally, Malone performed the role of Lišák in Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM)’s 2024 production of Janáček’s Příhody lišky Bystroušky. In 2023, Malone was engaged by Cincinnati Opera to participate in their summer season, which included Lucia di Lammermoor and Madama Butterfly (Chorus), as well as Die Fledermaus (Rosalinda, scenes), Die Walküre (Grimgierde/Rossweisse, scenes), A Little Night Music (Petra, scenes), Follies (Phyllis, scenes) in the Company’s Chorus Showcase. Earlier in 2023, Malone was engaged to sing in Santa Fe Opera’s commission of Gregory Spears and Tracy K. Smith’s The Righteous (Jenny/Woman 1/Reporter 1, Workshop), with Opera Fusion: New Works in conjunction with Cincinnati Opera. At CCM — where Malone earned a Master of Music degree and is currently in pursuit of an Artist Diploma degree — Malone also appeared in Dialogues des Carmélites (Blanche de la Force), scenes from Mozart’s Idomeneo (Elettra, Ilia), and scenes from Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte (Fiordiligi). In summer 2022, Malone made her role debut as Mimí in a cover performance of Puccini’s La Bohème, and participated in Norma (Norma, scenes), Eugene Onegin (Tatyana, scenes), Fidelio (Leonore, scenes) with Heidelberg Summer Opera.
Malone has had a roundabout path into classical music and opera: By age 6 she had begun performing around the musical theatre scene in Kansas City, Missouri. Throughout her adolescence, she played and sang Jazz around the midwest, while participating in Kansas City’s local straight-theatre and dance scenes. In 2017, she was nominated for “Actress in a Lead Role” (Eve, Children of Eden) and “Artistic Contribution” for her choreography in Children of Eden and Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson at Starlight’s Blue Star Awards. She attended Pepperdine University for her Bachelor of Arts degree, and studied in València, Spain at La Palau de las Artes Reine Sofia where she fell in love with classical singing and opera. In 2020, Shortly after falling in love with opera, she was to perform with the Prague National Symphony, in the Heidelberg Opera Program, tour Italy with Pepperdine’s Chamber Choir, and give a recital series in the Scotland, but the aforementioned engagements were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During her time at Pepperdine she performed in Gianni Schicchi (Lauretta), and the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon; Blaich also choreographed Die Fledermaus (2019) and Dido and Aeneas (2020), while serving in the chorus. In 2021, she participated in and placed 2nd (second) overall in the NATS National Student Awards. More recently, she received an Encouragement Award at the Kansas City District in the 2024 Laffont Competition and she tied for 5th (fifth) in the Finals for AIMS 2024 Meistersinger Competition. In addition to her performance and competition experiences, Malone is a licensed somatic practitioner, professional choreographer and is in the process of acquiring a 300-hour yoga teacher training certificate as well as a certification in massage therapy.
